Welcome to the Western Tidewater Radio Association
Serving Amateur Radio in Southeast Virginia

Our Mission

The original mission of the Western Tidewater Radio Association was to create a central focal point to support RACES and ARES activity in Virginia District 10 (counties of Isle of Wight, Southampton, Surry and Sussex) and the SKYWARN program under the auspices of the National Weather Service office in Wakefield, VA. Today this has grown into much more. Our mission now includes Elmering (mentoring) new and prospective hams, offering Volunteer Examiner services for amateur radio licensing exams in the Western Tidewater area, maintenance and operation of the wide area VHF and UHF WT4RA repeaters, and of course the original missions of emergency communications support for what is now the Western Tidewater area of District 5 and supporting the Skywarn program. Explore the various aspects of our mission by expoloring the pages under the “Mission” menu.
