Our Mission

The original mission of the Western Tidewater Radio Association was to create a central focal point to support RACES and ARES activity in Virginia District 5 – Western Tidewater (counties of Isle of Wight, Southampton, Surry and City of Franklin) and the SKYWARN program under the auspices of the National Weather Service office in Wakefield, VA. Today is has grown into much more. Our mission now includes Elmering (mentoring) new and prospective hams, offering Volunteer Examiner services for amateur radio licensing exams in the Western Tidewater area, maintenance and operation of the wide area VHF and UHF WT4RA repeaters, and of course the original missions of emergency communications support for D5 – Western Tidewater and supporting the Skywarn program.
