On Saturday December 19th, members and guests of the Western Tidewater Radio Association gathered for the annual Christmas Party at the Villas of Smithfield clubhouse.
The evening’s repast consisted of dishes brought by members and provided by the club. After a wonderful meal and fellowship among the members gathered, President Horton announced that everyone that the Annual Meeting of the WTRA would be held January 11th at Main Street Cafe and that new officers would be voted on. He also announced that the 2015 recipient of the Ham of the Year is Butch Moore, W4DXZ.
Chris N4KIT offered a hearty thank you to all the Isle of Wight County ARES/RACES members (26 volunteeers) and presented certificates of appointment to the Assistant Emergency Coordinators for Isle of Wight – Joe N4LWC, Lyle N4ACK, Butch W4DXZ and Brenda W4BJP. He also recognized and thanked Logistics Net Coordinator Glen KA7HBH and NTS Net Liaison Raymond KK4PUX.
President Horton then went around the room and asked each of the licensed amateurs present to share how they first got interested in amateur radio and got their first tickets. Many wonderful stories were shared from the longest licensed (Jarvis W4RGN) to the newest (Greg W4MZR) to the once-reluctant spouse YL (Brenda W4BJP).
We thank the event coordinators – Glen and Grace Little – for there hard work in coordinating the event, the many volunteers who pitched in to run errands, set up and break down the venue, and to the Villas of Smithfield and Ron and Anne Harvey for providing the lovely venue.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!
